Getting out of Paid Evernote into...Notes? Notion? Onenote? (happy to pay for features/ease)

2021.11.29 11:58 WhoistheDoctor Getting out of Paid Evernote into...Notes? Notion? Onenote? (happy to pay for features/ease)

I'm a 10 year evernote user.
I'm looking for the best choice and something practical. I don't mind paying for something yearly - but it has to work.
What do I mean by "Has to work"?

I have 4k some notes and I'm just tired of evernote (not happy with the development/paying attention to user needs/subscription creep)
Alternatively, if you've seen a solution (even slow) that does work to get out of evernote? I'm all ears. Applescript? Bring it. Python script? Sure.

2021.11.29 11:58 shadowkat79 Bingo! Row #4 - Mini Reviews and Card Progress-to-Date

Bingo! Row #4 - Mini Reviews and Card Progress-to-Date Time for another bingo, and I couldn't be happier for it to be Row #4, which contains - for those doing Hard Mode - the accursed Forest square! Should be smooth sailing after this one!
Here's a link to my first bingo Mini Reviews and Card Progress-to-Date post.
A Few, Interesting Row #4 Stats:
  • Total Pages Read in Row - 1,283
  • Average Rating across Row - 4/5 (noticing a trend here...)
  • Goodreads Shelf Selections - 0 (sigh...)
  • Favorite in Row - The Heart of What Was Lost by Tad Williams (no surprise there...)
I've attached a current snapshot of my visual card (thanks to u/shift_shaper for the Excel sheet I used to generate this image).
Row #4 Mini Reviews (beware - minor spoilers):
  • Latinx or Latin American Author ; HM - Book has Less Than 1000 GR Reviews : The Return of the Sorceress by Silvia Moreno-Garcia - (3/5) - (104 pages) - The Return of the Sorceress by Silvia Moreno-Garcia is a fantasy novella about a sorceress who loses her position of power after being betrayed by her lover. I was drawn to this novella by the description in Goodreads advertising it as Sword and Sorcery. Although I would not classify the book as such – I believe this to be a personal story about coming to terms with one’s hubris – it was still a pleasurable read delivering a solid message about the evils of desiring power in a interesting, fantastical setting. For me, the highlight of this book was the meso-american folklore influence on the world-building, especially in the form of what I would consider the main character’s cheeky familiar, the Nahual. Overall, a short, satisfying story.
  • Self-Published ; HM - Book has Less Than 50 GR Ratings : One in the Hand by Rhonda Parrish - (4/5) - (260 pages) - I wrote the second review of this book on GR, so definitely made the HM cut with this read! This book surprised me with its fresh approach to urban fantasy and its extensive character development and focus, and I can honestly say I'm looking forward to more. The story did not rely on typical or expected urban fantasy trope; instead, it presents a detailed slice-of-urban-life in which fantastical events are suddenly thrust upon the main character Autumn when a sword suddenly manifests itself inside her Omma's nursing home room. There is an entire world based in Norse mythology (a world of Gods, Giants, and magic with canonical characters such as Odin and his crows and the Valkyrie) that exists alongside the mundane and hidden to those that don't have magic. The reader learns the truths of her situation when Autumn does as she comes into her powers and learns about this world. The character-building is where this book truly shines; the reader gets to know Autumn through her day-to-day life routine: walking her dogs through cold streets (attention dog-lovers: her dogs are an integral part of this story!), working her two jobs, visiting her grandmother, and even simple activities like bath-time or playing a game on her phone. The ending packs quite a punch, which I think is in large part due to the strong characterization Parrish creates throughout the book. I definitely look forward to reading on in this series.
  • Forest Setting ; HM - Entire Book in the Forest Setting : Wildwood Dancing by Juliet Marillier - (4/5) - (434 pages) - I don't think anyone will debate that this is, by far, the most difficult Hard Mode sqaure. I actually attempted this square with another book, but that attempt failed when the book left the forest setting. What luck for me, then, when I found this amazing portal fantasy in which the characters moved between their world and another all within the confines of a forest! Last year I read Daughter of the Forest by Marillier, and I have to admit, I really wasn't a fan. But folks rave about her on this sub and the various Discord servers in which I participate, and so when this book came up as a potential hit for Forest HM, I thought it was a perfect chance for me to give her another try. I am SO glad that I did. The things that I actually liked about Daughter of the Forest were amplified in this book: Marillier's prose and imagery shine. She is truly a master at creating beautiful settings and tone. The things I disliked - the pacing, the trauma, and the rushed romantic elements - were all absent from Wildwood Dancing and instead replaced with a variety of elements that resonated with me, including a plot that was well-paced and based in a well-constructed fairytale retelling. The plot of this book is like if two Grimm fairytales (The Twelve Dancing Princesses and The Frog King) had a baby, but instead of the parents being German, they're Romanian. The retelling was fresh, and intriguing, and the backbone of Romanian folklore amid the Transylvanian setting was rich and different. The romantic subplots were so well done - both for Tati and for Jena - and their resolution satisfying. So, why the four stars instead of five? The age of the characters. Tati and Jena were 16 and 15 when the book starts, and I really struggled with the fact that they were being set up to find husbands and beget an heir at those ages. They could easily have been aged up five years, and the story would not have lost anything. I'm not typically a fan of YA, coming-of-age stories, but this book was so well-written, and the characters developed in such a way that the message delivered was age-agnostic, that I truly enjoyed the story and would recommend this to others regardless of age (although I do think it would have appealed to me even more in my younger years).
  • Genre Mashup ; HM - Three or More Genres : Grave Secrets by Alice James - (4/5) - (261 pages) - The three or more genres you ask? Fantasy, mystery, romance, and a dabble of horror in the form of helpful, noble zombies! This book was absolutely delightful! Highly recommend to anyone looking for a fun, urban fantasy romp through Stafford, England that includes a strong and witty FMC (who also happens to be a necromancer), a hot vampire love interest, a noble zombie, several casual decapitations, and a unique and memorable cast of supporting characters. I will definitely be reading on in this series and cannot wait to see how this unfolds!
  • Has Chapter Titles ; HM - Every Chapter has More Than One Word : The Heart of What Was Lost by Tad Williams - (5/5) - (224 pages) - Once again I am astounded by the greatness that is Tad William. I know, I know, I'm a total fan-girl, but I can't help but argue its with good reason. The events of this book happen immediately following To Green Angel Tower and addresses what happens to the Norns after their defeat at the Hayholt. There are so may different things I adored about this book. First and foremost, getting to read Williams' style of prose once again. His language and imagery are like wrapping yourself in a warm blanket and drinking a cup of tea - pure comfort through the written word. Next, his use of POVs in this book is strategic and perfectly executed to support its themes. The entire plot of the book revolves around the epic siege of Nikkiga (siege fans - this book is for you!), which is the home of the Norns, and Williams presents it to you from both the contrasting viewpoints of Duke Isgrimmnur of Osten Ard leading the siege and on the other hand Viyeki, a noble Norn working to protect his people from the obliteration of their race at the hand of these invaders. After the atrocities of the Norns throughout Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, this fascinating juxtaposition in POVs requires an empathy from the reader that is unexpected and yet very real. Further pull to your heartstrings comes from a third POV, that of Porto, a mercenary conscribed to help finish the war in the North. The care-abouts of an average soldier and young comrade, e.g. wanting to return home, questioning why they are there, hunger and cold, provide a stark contrast to the "noble endeavor" of eliminating the last vestiges of their lands' mortal enemies. Finally, and as always, Williams is adept at weaving the stories of his characters together in such a way that the ending is both powerfully unexpected and thoroughly satisfying - all loose ends are tied. It was a pleasure to return to the world of Osten Ard and some of its characters in this book. The stage is set for the follow-on series, The Last King of Osten Ard, and I am excited to dive in. Although you don't have to read MST to read this short book and get a feel for Williams manner of writing, the context is really key, and this book's impact is that much greater for it. Highest of recommendations!

2021.11.29 11:58 SamsamTS Hogwarts Legacy is NOT Harry Potter

Am I the only one annoyed by this association? Sure the game is set in the world built by the Harry Potter series. However there will not be any Harry Potter in this game and thus is NOT a Harry Potter game.
Nowhere is the name in the title or on the jacket of the game but media seem to insist adding it in.
Sorry if I offended anyone but that's just my opinion.

2021.11.29 11:58 RazorDak Has anyone tried the "Wild West RP"? I'm curious what they thought before I try it.

Hey all,
I loved loved lovedddd RDO, it was so much fun but like almost everyone I got frustrated with the lack of content and love from R*, I recently found out about the Wild West RP Discord and joined it but haven't played yet but wanted to hear if anyone here has, if you have what do you think of it? Is it a good hold gap for the game? Does it revitalize it for you? I want to know if it's worth the effort to play it.
Thank you!

2021.11.29 11:58 babysharks2019 Touchpad question

Just wondering, I bought my husband a new X15 gaming laptop and I wanted to know if anyone else with the same model has the ability to turn on the backlight on the touchpad? He just opened it yesterday and after doing all the updates and set up he realized his touchpad doesn’t light up. Is it an option at all to have it light up, or is that not something this model can do? 🤷🏻‍♀️
